The owner of Suri’s, Mr. Suraj Balakrishnan is a professional pastry chef with over 20 years of experience in professional bakery and pastry operations. He has pursued a craftsman course in bakery and confectionery at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Banglore. He then graduated from the "The Academy of Culinary Education” which is the Chef’s School of Management, at Cidade de goa.
Suraj’s first experience was being involved in the family bakery business, named "Vasco Bakery". After an internship program at "The Regent", Mumbai (now Taj Lands End) and Cidade de Goa, he went on to join the "P&O Cruises" Southampton, England. He was the Executive Pastry Chef onboard their luxury cruise ships and had the privilege of working with eminent celebrity Chef James Martin.
Later on Suraj joined "The Fusion Hospitality Pvt Ltd" Hyderabad as their Corporate Chef Patissier. He was part of the team instrumental in setting up and building a premium brand named deli 9 which was involved in establishing high end pastry shops. After having the opportunity to train at the "Callebaut Chocolate Academy" in Belgium and "Komplet" in Germany, Suraj moved back to working at cruise liners and was assigned as The Executive Pastry Chef at the "Holland America Line" Seattle, USA. During this time, he had the honor to work with well-known renowned French Pastry Chef and Master Chef Chocolatier Jacques Torres for over a period of ten years.
